School Governance
At San Antonio Christian School, our governance model is designed to protect the mission, promote accountability, and ensure the school’s strength for generations to come.
San Antonio Christian School is governed by a Board of Directors committed to the long-term flourishing of the school and its Christ-centered mission. We follow the Carver model of nonprofit governance, which emphasizes strategic direction, future-oriented planning, and a clear distinction between governance and management.
The Board’s primary responsibilities include:
- Guarding and advancing the mission and core values of the school
- Hiring, supporting, and holding accountable the Head of School
- Providing strategic oversight of planning, finances, and facilities
- Ensuring the school’s strength for future generations
- Supporting the advancement of the school through philanthropic leadership
The Head of School is the Board’s sole employee, responsible for the leadership of all day-to-day operations—such as personnel, admissions, student life, curriculum, budget, and school culture. The Board does not act as a court of appeal for operational issues. Instead, it focuses on policy, direction, and stewardship.
San Antonio Christian School is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization led by a self-perpetuating Board of Directors. Board members are nominated and appointed through a prayerful process based on clear qualifications and a shared commitment to the school’s Christ-centered mission. The Board meets quarterly, or as needed, to provide policy direction, strategic oversight, and long-term stewardship.
Where Do Parents Fit In?
We deeply value the partnership we have with SACS families. While the Board looks ahead to the future, parents are active partners in the everyday life and ministry of the school.
Parents are welcome to serve in many meaningful ways:
- Volunteering at events, in classrooms, or with athletics and the arts
- Serving as parent ambassadors or room parents
- Participating on event committees or school-wide initiatives
- Occasionally being invited to serve on Board committees or the Board itself
Parents are not involved in the governance or operations of the school, but their presence, feedback, and involvement are a vital part of the SACS community. Together, we work as the Body of Christ on behalf of our students.
San Antonio Christian School’s mission is to partner with families to provide students with a Christ-centered education while fostering a life of faith and service.
