Position 

The Guidance Counselor will serve as a champion of student success by closely working with students, teachers, parents, and principals, providing needed resources and intervention. The counselor will also help students navigate academic, social, spiritual, and cultural issues according to their age and grade. The counselor will do individual student counseling that includes referrals, meeting with families and teachers, and organizing group seminars. All of this will be done with the goal of creating an environment of student flourishing and successful grade completion. This person shall be spiritually mature and shall reflect the purpose of the school, which is to honor Christ at all times.


 Essential Job Functions

  • Provide consultation and/or conferences to middle and high school parents and teachers.
  • Provide individual counseling for middle and high school students as needed.
  • Teach life skills and social skills lessons in middle and high school small groups.
  • Make and give referrals to students and families for school and community resources for additional assistance and information.
  • Work with the principal and teachers towards the resolution of student behavior problems.
  • Plan parent meetings regarding current social issues.
  • Present mental health issues and resolutions in group settings as needed.
  • Help students understand their giftings and unique personalities and offer insights.
  • Assist with building positive culture within the student body and faculty.
  • Partner and communicate with parents to help improve students’ mental health and well-being.
  • Educate parents about social and emotional trends.
  • Assist in planning professional learning for teachers on current topics that will help teachers with parents and students.
  • Facilitate crisis intervention and prevention programs.
  • Collaborate with and support parents in developing strategies and/or plans for necessary intervention, provide resources, and communicate regarding student progress.
  • Assist and help lead the student ambassador program.
  • Assist in supporting new students.
  • Attend staff meetings as required.
  • Exemplify and communicate the Christian faith in working with students.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Administration.

 


Professional Requirements

  • College degree preferred. Be willing to participate in continuing education opportunities that will increase proficiency and job skills. 
  • State Certification as needed.
  • Two years of work experience as a counselor, preferred in an academic environment.
  • A proven track record demonstrating a genuine concern for the social, emotional, spiritual, and physical well-being of children.
  • Experience and knowledge in best practices for school counseling.
  • PC proficient with knowledge of standard software.
  • Demonstrate experience showing a genuine concern for the social, emotional, spiritual, and physical well-being of children.
  • Have reliable transportation to and from work. Be at least 18 years of age and pass a criminal background check.
  • Must be able to multitask and problem solve.
